VALENS COINS

Flavius Valens was born about 328 and was made Emperor by his brother Valentinian. He conclued peace with Goths in 370 on the condition that they should not cross the Danube. In 377 the Goths took up arms. Valens collected a powerful army and marched against them but was defeated near Hadrianople, on the 9th of August, 378. Valens was never seen after the battle.
