PESCENNIUS NIGER COINS
C. Pescennius Niger, was governor of Syria during the latter part of the reign of Commodus, on whose death he was saluted emperor by the legions in the East, A.D. 193 ; but in the following year he was defeated and put to death by Septimius Severus.
