PERTINAX COINS

Helvius Pertinax was of humble origin and rose from the post of centurion both to the highest military and civil commands in the reigns of Marcus Aurelius and Commodus. On the murder of Commodus, Pertinax who was then sixty-six years of age, was reluctantly persuaded to accept the empire. He was murdered by soldiers after two months of reign.
