Queen Boudica.wmv
Mar 9th
Boudica (pronounced /ˈbuːdɨkə/; also spelled Boudicca), formerly known as Boadicea /boʊdɨˈsiːə/ (d. AD 60 or 61) was a queen who led an uprising of the tribes against the occupying forces of the Roman Empire. Boudica’s husband Prasutagus, ruler of the Iceni tribe who had ruled as a nominally independent ally of Rome, left his kingdom jointly to his daughters and the Roman Emperor in his will. However, when he died his will was ignored. The kingdom was annexed as if conquered, Boudica was flogged and her daughters raped, and Roman financiers called in their loans. In AD 60 or 61, while the Roman governor, Gaius Suetonius Paulinus, was leading a campaign on the island of Anglesey in north Wales, Boudica led the Iceni people, along with the Trinovantes and others, in revolt. They destroyed Camulodunum (modern Colchester), formerly the capital of the Trinovantes, but now a colonia (a settlement for discharged Roman soldiers) and the site of a temple to the former emperor Claudius, which was built and maintained at local expense. They also routed a Roman legion, the IX Hispana, sent to relieve the settlement. On hearing the news of the revolt, Suetonius hurried to Londinium (London), the twenty-year-old commercial settlement that was the rebels’ next target. Concluding he did not have the numbers to defend it, Suetonius evacuated and abandoned it. It was burnt to the ground, as was Verulamium (St Albans). An estimated 70000–80000 people were killed in the three cities (though …

Mar 7th
Today, in 2011, the US goverment is spending 7+ cents to produce a 5-cent nickel. What does that mean? Inflation, Severe Inflation, or Hyperinflation are around the corner. Germany’s post-WWI hyperinflation started when the metal value of their coins exceeded their face value. The same thing is beginning to happen here. Protect yourself.

decima watkins on radio wales

This is the recently patented remote-controlled metal detector called ‘Decima’ – after its inventor — Decima Watkins. This machine is a godsend for people who love metal-detecting because it does all the hard work for you. Metal-detecting involves a lot of walking about, which tends to be quite exhausting after a while. But with the Decima machine, you can sit down with the remote-control while you send the machine off to find the treasure for you! This machine is fast, easy-to-operate and extremely accurate. In the last year it has been used to uncover over £2000 worth of modern coinage, as well as over 5000 rare coins and other valuable artefacts dating as far back as the 14th century, and even some from the Roman period. The machine can move forwards and backwards, left and right – just like a remote-controlled car. The detector-rod sweeps automatically as it moves, simulating the motion of a manual operator. It can differentiate between different types of metal, including iron, tin, silver and gold. When the machine finds something of value hidden underground, it provides an audio alert and drops a fluorescent ball at that site, so you can return to that spot later to see what’s hidden there. The machine also has powerful headlamps and laser lights on each side to make it easy to use after dark. More videos of the Decima machine can be viewed at: www.youtube.com For enquiries on the Decima machine, please contact the inventor at: justdeci@hotmail.co.uk

Over the years I have created in excess of 1000 pieces of work and realise that it would be very boring for the viewer to trawl through it all. I have selected 34 images of pieces that I consider “My Best Bits” – others may not agree……….In fact going through my old photo albums – pre digital, I realise there is so much more I have not put online. www.jackiewills.co.uk

Live audio of single performance . May 11th , 2012 . Houston , Tx . The origins of the Crescent & Sun/star are Turkic from ancient times, pre-Islamic. The Turks believed in Shamanisim and more importantly the one supreme Sky God (Tanri) along side others gods like that of the Moon & Sun, when they roamed nomadicaly on horseback in the steppes of Siberia & central Asia. The importance of the celestial bodies can be seen in many Turk epics, poems, songs, names etc. One quick example is that of the legendary leader of the Western Turks, Oguz Khan, named his first 3 born Sun, Moon, & Star emphasizing the importance of the celestial objects to Turks. *The founder of the Ottoman Turkish empire, Osman, had a dream in which he invisioned a Crescent Moon stretching over the Earth, he took it as a good sign and made it the symbol of his dynasty. The crescent and star, while generally regarded as Islamic symbols today, have long been used in Asia Minor and by the ancient Turks, earlier than the advent of Islam. According to archaeological excavations, Göktürks used the crescent and star figure on their coins. The 1500-year-old coin includes three crescent moon figures and a star near a person. The crescent and moon was a Turkic symbol long before the Turks came in contact with the Eastern Roman Empire.
